Behold - the fanciest thing I own, a box full of Advance Readers’ Copies of TEAM HUMAN, a book that Justine Larbalestier and I wrote, which will not be out until JULY! Would you LIKE one?
It is about that first time in school when your best girlfriend has a boyfriend and she loves him SO MUCH and she talks about him ALL THE TIME… and also, he is a vampire.
Seemed a good idea to start tumblring with a FANCY GIVEAWAY!
If this gets reblogged 100 times, I shall put all who did so in a hat for one of these fine fancy things…

Reblog this. And also follow her. She’s funny and awesome and writes amazing books.

Wait a second, Team Human is an actual book?

Justine and I were so committed to the Team Human hoax that we wrote a book. And we are writing a second one! REMORSELESS HOAXERS.

Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen

Title: Bright Young Things
Author: Anna Godbersen
Publication Date: October 12th 2010
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 389
Rating: 4/5

Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York’s glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star…
Cordelia is searching for the father she’s never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It’s a life anyone would kill for … and someone will.
The only person Cordelia can trust is Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia’s brother, Charlie. But Astrid’s perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.

Bright Young Things
was an … interesting read to say the least. I say interesting because I’ve never read a book quite like this one yet it’s similar to some of the other books I’ve read. I like how there were the three different POV’s between Cordelia, Astrid and Letty. It gave us a in depth look into how New York in 1929 was really like.

At first I was confused by the differen’t POV’s because of how abruptly they changed from character to character but I soon got used to it and actually started enjoying it. Each POV was distinct and you could immediately tell who was telling the story when it changed. However, I preferred Astrid and Cordelia’s POV’s over Letty’s. I did like Letty at the beginning but when it got to the fight between Letty and Cordelia, I just started finding her annoying and possibly a little boring. What was the point of that fight anyway? Compared to her’s, Cordelia and Astrid’s actually made me laugh and want to keep reading.

Anna Godberson did a really good job with the foreshadowing. All the clues were right there and yet I wouldn’t have guessed something as surprising as what had happened. And ohmygod wow. What a twist! I loved how Cordelia dealt with it and what happened after.

Bright Young Things was a book that is possibly a little slow to get into but is overall a good solid book once you’ve read the whole thing. I recommend this to fans of historical and romantic YA novels and people who just love a good surprise.

Spells by Aprilynne Pike

Title: Spells
Author: Aprilynne Pike
Publication Date: May 4th 2010
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 359
Rating: 2.5/5

Summary: Six months have passed since Laurel saved the gateway to the faerie realm of Avalon. Now she must spend her summer there, honing her skills as a Fall faerie. But her human family and friends are still in mortal danger—and the gateway to Avalon is more compromised than ever.

When it comes time to protect those she loves, will she depend on David, her human boyfriend, for help? Or will she turn to Tamani, the electrifying faerie with whom her connection is undeniable?

I read Wings, the prequel to Spells, like two years ago so my memories of the story are a bit hazy. But one thing I do remember is that I did not like David, and that didn’t change with this book. David, Laurel’s boyfriend, has absolutely nothing special about him - he’s normal, and not in a good way. I mean, I read plenty of books where girls fall for normal guys but the authors always found some way to make them somehow special for the main character. Sure, David knows about Laurel’s secret and isn’t freaked out about it but he was still just plain, ordinary and boring and in no way did the author write the story to make me like him. I ended up hating every written dialogue with David in it.

I liked Tamani, however, but I hated his obsession and infatuation with Laurel. And in turn I hated Laurel’s attitude towards Tamani. You have a boyfriend - don’t lead any other guy on. There were parts where I enjoyed Laurel and Tamani’s time together though. Some were sweet and just so cute that I thought that I could forget about all the bad things that were happening throughout the rest of the book.

The actual story bored me, really. While I enjoyed the time spent in Avalon for the first hundred pages or so, when Laurel returned to Earth, it all went downhill from there. First, because of David. Second because the thing with the Trolls was so predictable. I could tell what would happen right from the minute Laurel’s foot touched Earth.

You can probably tell that I’d rather Laurel be with Tamani than David but I doubt that’s going to happen. Though I’m curious as to what is going to happen in the next book after what happened at the end so I guess I’ll try and start Illusions sometime soon.

Top 10 Tuesday - Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish

1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling GASP. SHOCK. THE HORROR Yeah I know. I know like, everyone, not even keen readers, has read this one. I don’t know why I haven’t read it. I guess the story never really stood out to me. I haven’t even watched the movies.

2. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White I seriously feel as though everyone has read this - apart from me that is. There’s a review or post about this on every blog I follow I’m pretty sure. And I’ve heard so many good things about it that I don’t even know why I haven’t read it yet!

3. Nightshade by Andrea Cremer Again, like Paranormalcy, Nightshade has been on basically every blog I follow and I’ve still yet to read it. But I will read this soon, I will!

4. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about this. I think it’s one of those books where you either love it or hate it and while it may not be on the top of my TBR list it still feels as if everyone else has read it except for me.

5. Delirium by Lauren Oliver I really want to read this one after reading Divergent since they’re both apparently amazing dystopians but I still haven’t! And now I see this like, everywhere and wan’t to read this like, even more but I know it’ll still take me ages until I actually do read it.

6. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
I honestly didn’t know about this book until The Iron Knight was the buzz on book blogs. But now that I’ve heard of it, I seem to see it all the time. You know that feeling? Well, now it feels like everyone’s read it and is eagerly awaiting The Iron Knight while I haven’t even read the first book!

7. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia This was another one I didn’t know about until I saw a giveaway on The Story Siren’s blog and again, I’ve started seeing it everywhere. Apparently, now it’s even being made into a movie?

8. A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly  I’ve heard so many people mentioning this when talking about Revolution by the same author (which I have read) and now it feels that it’s a disgrace that I’ve read Revolution but not A Northern Light. I’ll have to read this one soon!

9. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles I really, really want to read this! Just because literally everyone has said that it’s such an awesome book without all those paranormal twists and everything!

10. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins I don’t really know what this one is about but it seems to be everywhere on the blogosphere so I guess I should include th

is in my list.
